Windows Mobile 7 on HTC HD2 coming November, confirmed by HTC staff again?

By now I think it is pretty safe to assume Windows Mobile 7 will eventually be coming to the HTC HD2.

The latest confirmation comes from a response to a customer question sent last month asking about the very issue of an upgrade.

Dear Toby

Thank you for your enquiry about HD2

What we do it ROM Upgrades from our website, however 6.5 windows mobile has only been out 2 months and windows mobile 7 hasn’t even been developed. This wont be out until next November at the earliest. But when it is available it will be a free download.

If these steps have not helped, please let me know by responding using the link provided and I will be happy to check again for you.

Best regards,

At present we are also pretty sure the OS will be announced at Mobile World Congress in a months time, which we expect to be following very closely.

  • Hehe, cool sentence: It's pretty save that wm7 will eventually be coming to the hd2;-)

  • Maybe I'm a skeptic, but the only thing I believe from that sentence is that WM7 is scheduled for release in November. I wouldn't be surpsied if like mose CS reps he was a bit confused and didn't realize that MS/HTC is probably going to push out 6.5.3 to the HD.

More than likely 6.5.3 will be released as a free download
WM7 will start appearing in Nov.

And since I've never seen HTC develop 2 OS updates for a device, I don't see it happening now, unless times are changing and that WM7 license is free or something.

First of all, this is old news, read this days ago.

Second, stop posting unconfirmed crap like this. Why is it safe to assume WM7 will be coming to the HD2? Didn't that Tweet get redacted quickly? And anyway, WM7 on the HD2 in an official form makes absolutely no sense. If the HD didn't get WM6.5 why would the HD2 get WM7? If HTC is going to have brand new phones ready to go for WM7's launch why would they infringe on that by upgrading an obsolete (by then) device by giving it WM7?

It makes no sense… and customer service reps in any industry don't know anything, that's fact. When was the last time a support line actually gave you useful assistance or answers?

I mean come on, this guy doesn't even speak proper English… and he doesn't even understand what ROMs are, he is confirming it will be free. Well no kidding, any WM ROM is free if its made available by the manufacturer. And he makes it like it's a matter of course, "oh we have no clue when WM7 is going to be released, but I wouldn't see why it wouldn't be made available for free on our website for our customers once it is."

This is just wishful thinking, there is no indication of WM7 coming to the HD2 and I personally don't believe it. One Twitter post and one poorly worded email and it's official, eh?

Does that mean Nov 10 or Nov 11? People often use "next" differently.

  • GP007:

HD2 upgrade or not, the news about WM7 in November is interesting if true. I was thinking about Sept-Oct, but Nov fits, and is in time for holidays. So it works out in the end. MS just has to show us something good at MWC and MiX to keep people interested.

  • I'm still kinda sure that next month in mwc, they're only going to announce 6.5.3

  • dpj:

Well, HTC can motivate consumers to buy new devices end of 2010 in 2 ways – by not upgrading existing to WM7 and offering it only with the new devices, or by offering new devices with much faster hardware, which will be an incentive on its own. I am not sure which option HTC will choose though … having in mind how the competition will upgrade the hardware soon (Apple, Motorola) I think HTC will be forced to do the same as well (and for good)

What I am sure about is that currently MS is testing WM7 on HD2. I hope that at least this version leaks out inofficially ;)
